Nowadays, MP3 is the most widely spread file format for music storage. Every computer and almost every multimedia device can play MP3 files. The number of MP3 songs owned by an user tends to get higher and higher, as the storage devices become larger. But the problem with these MP3 files is that not all of them are perfect, as some of them may be corrupted. The cause of this problem may be a scratched CD or a faulty music conversion software. But, whatever the cause may be, the result is always the same, that is the corrupted songs can ruin a perfectly created playlist and could cause the malfunction of the software audio player or multimedia device. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem and it's called MP3 Checker. As the name suggests, this software can verify the state of MP3 songs and easily identify corrupted ones.

The programs installs very fast and runs on most computer configurations and on all Windows versions. The space occupied by the program directory is under 1 MB, thus being ideal for small hard disks.

The interface is basic, there's nothing fancy about it, all the controls and options are in the right place. MP3 Checker is organized into two tabs, one for displaying bad MP3s and the other, for good MP3s. First of all, the user has to select the directory where the scanning will occur. Secondly, he can check which types of files to scan, as the software supports MP3 and DAT files. The process begins after clicking the scan files and soon afterwards the two tabs will be filled with paths to MP3 songs. After the scan is over, a small window will be displayed, showing the number of good and bad MP3s, the total number of songs and the length and size of them.

The user can choose to delete the corrupted songs or to move them to a quarantine folder, as some antivirus programs do with infected files. MP3 Checker automatically adds a comment to the tag of every good MP3 song which states that the file is ok.

Pros

It thoroughly checks the state of MP3 songs and quickly points out the ones that are corrupted, without generating false results. It also allows moving the bad songs to a quarantine folder, instead of deleting them.

Cons

Advanced users might want more options and features, like a built-in player for example. The interface also looks a bit too simple. The software features a lot of options for configuring the scanning process, for instance scanning sub directories or modifying the tag of the file. MP3 Checker is a great program for quickly and easily finding corrupted MP3 songs.
